Education in the Evansville Region is very important. Test scores of Evansville students are very competitive. On the State Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills and the Indiana Test of Educational Proficiencies, EVSC students scored above the national average in basic skills and above all Indiana urban school corporations on the proficiency tests.

The Evansville - Vanderburgh School Corporation operates twenty elementary schools, ten middle schools, and five high schools. Eighty-three percent of the certified staff have a Master's degree or more. Pupil-teacher ratio is 16.6:1. 89% of the students graduate. 65% of these students go on to colleges, universities, and technical schools.
Evansville's North High School with an enrollment of 1,329 has something for everyone: a range of accelerated courses, trips abroad for the language students, a continuing education program for pregnant teens, and after school tutoring for those who need it. Students routinely win state awards in business, science, art, and marketing.
The Catholic Diocese of Evansville operates 19 elementary schools (grades 1-8) and 2 high schools. Six other parochial schools offer k-8 classes as well. The Evansville area is also served by one private K-12 school (Evansville Day School) and a K-8 Montessori Academy.
| The Southern Indiana Japanese School (SIJS) opened in September 1997 in Evansville, Indiana, at the request of Japanese companies locating in southwestern Indiana. SIJS exists to enable the school-age children of Japanese employees of these companies to keep up with their peers in Japan and to help these children integrate smoothly into Japanese school life when they return to Japan. Any local child who would like to study at SIJS may also be accepted if he/she has adequate Japanese language skills for participation in classroom activities. |

The Southern Indiana Tech Center
The state-of-the-art Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center is the hub for the development and delivery of innovative, leading-edge career and technical education, workforce development and training, adult continuing education, and general education programs for the entire Southern Indiana region.
Through the center, high school students from the southern half of Spencer County and all of Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties can receive classroom and hands-on training in 18 diverse areas of study using the latest emerging technologies and equipment.
Additionally, high school students who are at-risk of not graduating can attend the School of Academic & Career Development, formerly Stanley Hall Enrichment Center, and take advantage of the increased opportunities relocating to this new facility provides.
Adult learners can improve their basic educational and living skills, develop job skills and/or technical knowledge, or earn their high school diplomas or GEDs through a variety of programs offered through the School of Adult Continuing Education and the School of Extended Acadmic Services.
UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE (UE)
The University is an independent, United Methodist Church affiliated university, and holds a strong position in character and quality among institutions of higher education throughout the nation. With five colleges and schools, including a campus at Harlexton College in England, the University provides outstanding educational opportunities in the liberal arts and sciences as well as in selected professions. UE has been named one of the top ten best buys for 11 years in a row by US News and World Report.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA (USI)

U.S. News & World Report collaborated with School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education and data research and analysis business that provides parents with education data on analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 18,000 public high schools to find the very best across the country. These top schools were placed into gold, silver, or bronze medal categories. Signature School Inc in Vanderburgh County, Evansville, IN was awarded Gold.
ALCOA FOUNDATION GRANT TO PROVIDE 'GREEN BUILDING AND SCHOLARSHIPS AT U OF E
The Alcoa Foundation is providing $142,500 to the University of Evansville to help construct a "green" building on campus and boost student aid. The gift, announced Monday, is the largest by The Alcoa Foundation through its Warrick Operations this year.
$42,500 will go toward the university's Friends for Educational Excellence program to help pay for student scholarships and financial aid, $100,000 will go toward helping make the new Ridgeway University Center a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified facility.
The project, along with the recently opened Schroeder Family School of Business Administration building, will make the University of Evansville the first institution of higher education in Southwestern Indiana to have LEED-certified "green" buildings on campus. The business administration building also is undergoing the process of becoming LEED certified.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System is a trademark program of the US Green Building Council. It is considered a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance, environmentally friendly buildings.
Ivy Tech Community College has announced plans to offer an agriculture degree program. The program will include both an Associate of Applied Science and an Associate of Science degree. The Associate of Science degree was designed in partnership with Purdue University. Officials say the program is needed because the Indiana State Department of Agricultures strategic plan calls for dramatic increases in the states food and agricultural segments.
The University of Evansville has once again been ranked in the top tier and recognized as a best value among Masters degree granting universities in the Midwest, as well as a best university in U.S.News and World Report's annual 2006 Americas Best Colleges guide. UE was ranked third as a Best Value and in the top 10 as Best University out of 142 colleges and universities in the Midwest.
Evansvilles Signature School ranked by Newsweek as one of the nation's 100 best schools. Signature School ranked 54th, according to an index based on the ratio of the number of Advanced Placement tests, divided by the number of graduating seniors.
A gift made to the University of Evansville will help the school to expand its wireless network on campus. The donation will assist the school in improving its wireless connectivity to student housing, academic and administration buildings and campus green spaces.
Ivy Tech's Evansville campus has received final state approval to begin offering an associate's degree in pre-engineering studies. Students who complete the degree can transfer to bachelor's degree programs at the University of Evansville or the University of Southern Indiana.
